Varieties and Cultivation
The dominant varieties in our vineyards are the indigenous Prokupac and Tamjanika. In addition to native grapes, we also grow international varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Prokupac is an ancient and most widespread red variety in the Toplica wine region. The quality and authenticity of Doja Prokupac have been recognized internationally, as shown by gold medals at prestigious competitions.
The vineyards of Tamjanika and Pinot Grigio are located on steep slopes with varying exposures — some facing northeast, others southwest. Different exposures create diverse light and temperature conditions, allowing us to harvest grapes with freshness and preserved aromas from the northeast slopes, and structure and richness from the southwest.
The combination of altitude, exposure, and mountain proximity helps us maintain freshness and aromatic complexity in our wines — even in times of global warming and rising average temperatures. All varieties are trained using a horizontal cordon system and spur pruning. Yields are limited to 8 tons per hectare, in accordance with the regulations of the Toplica Geographical Indication.
